Silkwood Profile

Silkwood's 3-layer construction consists of a top layer a core layer and a stabilising bottom layer. Each layer is bonded and pressed together using the latest heat and pressure techniques, with the glue specifically designed for Boral Timber Flooring's requirements. This 15mm thick timber floor locks together using a tongue and groove system to create a beautiful timber floor that comes already coated and polished.

The Top Layer is 4mm of solid Australian species. This is the wear layer of the product and is factory finished with 6 coats of UV-cured acrylic for a beautiful scratch resistant finish.

The Core Layer is made from 9mm thick pine. It is the middle layer that forms the tongue and groove component of the floor. For added stability the grain runs in the opposite direction to the Top and Base layers

The Base Layer is a 2mm thick Australian plantation timber, which ensures dimensional stability of the system and is adhered to the core

The 3-layer creation of Silkwood is exceptionally stable because the cross-ply configuration restrains the movement of any one layer

Silkwood Lifestyle

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Timber is one of the world's few truly renewable natural resources. The Australian hardwood that you buy from Boral Timber Flooring is sourced from a forest that is sustainably managed through a rigorous framework of both Commonwealth and State laws and regulations.

WARRANTY

Boral Timber Flooring offers a 25 year warranty in all residential applications. See Boral's warranty statement on the Boral website for further details.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

After your floor has been installed you may walk on it within hours. Some simple care and maintenance procedures will help prevent unnecessary wear and damage to your floor.

For instance, always place protective pads under furniture legs and doormats at entryways and never use abrasive brushes or ammonia based cleaners. It is also advisable to use non-slip rugs in high wear areas.

QUICK INSTALLATION

Silkwood Engineered Flooring can be installed in a matter of hours, directly over a number of surfaces such as:

  • Over a concrete slab
  • Over particle board or plywood sub-flooring
  • Over ceramic tiles or vinyl.
  • Over old timber

There are four fundamental points to consider when installing Silkwood Engineered Flooring.

  • The subfloor should be clean, dry and level in all cases. Silkwood is predominantly installed as a floating floor over existing structural flooring or can also be glued directly onto the subfloor - particular preparation is vital for successful installation.
  • In a floating floor installation method, use an effective underlay.
  • Leave a small gap around the edge of the floor to allow for the natural expansion associated with timber.
  • Finish the floor with the appropriate trims, available from your retailer.

For best results, we recommend you have a professional installer lay your Silkwood floor.
