Design Pine
Engineered - Tanalised
Clear H3 LOSP Treated - Ready to paint
The process of finger jointing and laminating
radiata pine allows producers to manufacture an engineered
timber product that is straighter, stronger and easier
to use than solid radiata. Add Tanalised® clear
H3 LOSP treatment and the product becomes a highly durable
timber able to withstand hazardous conditions including
attack from borers, termites and rot.
Design Pine® is the ITI range of finger jointed
and laminated Tanalised® clear H3 LOSP treated radiata
pine. Design Pine® is covered by the Tanalised®
25 year guarantee and has one major advantage over similar
products, Design Pine® now comes in BLUE,
but don't be confused this is not just a change in colour,
but a revolution in paint technology.
Design Pine® makes painting as easy as putting on
the topcoat. The new Design Pine® is coated with
a genuine primer, which is ready for painting.
What makes design pine
different?
LOSP treatment of timber is a highly efficient
and successful means of treating and protecting cut
timber. However, the removal of excess solvents from
the process can leave residues of resin acids and waxes
on the surface, which may transfer through normal, high
quality, solvent borne primers causing overcoating problems
with waterborne topcoats. Design Pine® is coated
with a new high quality solvent borne primer which has
been developed over 3 years by Resene.
This new Design Pine® primer has been extensively
evaluated for compatibility with all major Australasian
top coats and has proved to be successful. Design Pine®
primer also helps to prevent moisture transmission,
improving the overall water and humidity resistance
of the timber.

Light colours will give the best
results
Remember timber is a natural material
and thus the use of light coloured topcoats is recommended.
Dark colours tend to heat up more and this may lead
to problems such as surface cracking and gum bleeding.

Keeping your home attractive and
protected

Annual washing of your home will help maintain its fresh
appearance. For an instant fresh appearance regularly
wash down with a mild detergent diluted as recommended
with water. Apply the diluted solution with a soft broom.
Wash off with copious amounts of fresh water. Most detergents
can have a negative effect on fish life so avoid letting
the washings run off into the stormwater system.

Why choose timber
Timber is the only renewable building
material, and Design Pine® comes from plantation
forests. Trees absorb greenhouse gases during growth
while releasing oxygen into the atmosphere and storing
carbon as wood fibre. Timber also uses little energy
to produce as compared to other building materials.

Painting
Design Pine® is best overcoated within
6 weeks of installation for optimum finish results:
- Remove all dirt etc, and prime all bare areas with
Design Pine® primer
- Apply two topcoats of either a solvent based or
acrylic top quality paint
- If the primer surface is exposed to the weather
for an extended period the surface may become chalky.
If this happens sanding & re-priming are required.

Fixings
While LOSP is non corrosive to metal fixings,
galvanized steel or other non-corrosive fastners should
be used in applications that are exposed to the weather.

Cutting
As recommended with all treated timber,
any cuts or notches should be resealed with Enseal clear
and coated with Design Pine® primer.

Disposal of off-cuts
LOSP off-cuts and sawdust are non hazardous
waste and thus for normal domestic and trade users,
waste can be disposed of through normal waste collection.
Treated off-cuts and sawdust should not be burnt as
domestic fuel nor should it be supplied for mulching
or animal bedding.
